A Level + IT Pathway

When you study on this course, you will be developing your skills of analysis, problem-solving, creativity, critical thinking and collaboration - all core qualities that top universities and employers' value for success in the STEM sector. We offer a curriculum that is enriched by input from local employers and will enable you to find out about clear career pathways into a wide range of IT and Computing-based jobs.

As part of this course you will study BTEC Diploma in IT AND one A Level in Maths

The majority of our students progress to universities where they study a wide variety of degrees including Cyber security, Computer Science, Digital Media and Computing and Management Artificial Intelligence.

For those students not wishing to progress to university, comprehensive support is provided to help them find alternatives such as employment or Apprenticeships. In the past, students have progressed onto employment as Network Engineers.

  • Entry Requirements


    We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    You will need to provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other this will include attendance. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria. All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence- based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference / school report.

    For admission on to the Diploma pathway (2 x A-level equivalent over two years)

    5 x GCSE's at C/4 or above, or a Level 2 Certificate / Extended Certificate or above, at Merit or above, in a relevant subject. GCSE Grades must include Maths at grade 7 and English Language at grade 4/C

  • Course Content


    Mathematics In the first year you will cover topics in Pure Maths, Statistics and Mechanics. In Pure Maths you will study a wide range of topics including differentiation and trigonometry. In Statistics you will learn about sampling and probability and hypothesis testing, and in Mechanics you will learn about kinematics (displacement, velocity and acceleration). In the second year you will develop your mathematical problem-solving skills and algebraic skills further and you will study the Pure Maths topics in greater depth. In Statistics you will learn about probability distributions and in Mechanics you will learn about moments and friction.

  • Progression Next Steps

    Compulsory Diploma in IT

    Plus one A Level: Recommended - A Level in Mathematics

  • Assessment Details


    Assessment will be by assignments, presentations etc. There will also be externally assessed units which will be a mixture of timed exams and timed set tasks depending on the units.
