Levels Explained

ENTRY LEVEL

Foundation Learning / Entry Level. This is your first step if you have no GCSEs or formal qualifications. Places on courses usually depend on interview and reference. Success at this level will move you up to a Level 1 qualification.

LEVEL 1

To be at this level you will have gained GCSEs at grade E-G or successfully completed an Entry Level course. From here you can step up to a Level 2 qualification or enter the workplace.

LEVEL 2

If you have mainly D grades at GCSE or have successfully completed your Level 1 course then this level is for you.

LEVEL 3

To be at this level you will usually need a minimum of 4 or 5 GCSEs at A*-C or Merit Grades on your Level 2 course.

LEVEL 4

You will have successfully completed your Level 3 course and can choose to study a Higher National Certificate, Foundation Degree, Degree or other Level 4 course.

LEVEL 5

You will have completed your HNC or the first year of your HND, Foundation Degree or Degree to start on this level.

LEVEL 6

You will have successfully completed your HND, Foundation Degree or the second year of your Degree to start a course at this level.
