Mathematics A Level

By studying AS/A Level Mathematics you will develop your understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes and also develop the ability to reason logically and recognise incorrect reason. This course will give you the skills to represent a situation mathematically, i.e. be able to model real-life situations. You will also develop an awareness of the relevance of mathematics to other fields of study, the world of work and to society in general. The course will also enable you to acquire the skills needed to use technology effectively in problem solving.

 

Course Content

The specification consists of Pure Core papers and an application paper. The first year AS year consists of three modules:

 

· Module 1 - Pure Core 1, 100% examination

· Module 2 - Pure Core 2, 100% examination

· Module 3 - Statistics 1, 100% examination

 

In the 2nd year three further modules are studied to complete the full A Level.

 

· Module 4 - Pure Core 3, 100% examination

· Module 5 - Pure Core 4, 100% examination

· Module 6 - Mechanics 1, 100% examination

 

There is no coursework.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 40 points for your average GCSE score, Mathematics at grade B / 5, English Language and at least three other GCSEs from our specified range of GCSE subjects at grades A*-C / 9-4 and a satisfactory reference.

International Entry Requirements

IELTS 5.5, High School Certificate Grade C / 4 or above (or equivalent).

Duration and Delivery

The A Level qualification is a full time course achieved over a two year period. In the first year you study the AS modules and in the second year you will study the A2 modules. The year begins in September and runs through to the beginning of July.

Progression

AS or A Level Mathematics is highly regarded by Higher Education institutions and can lead to many rewarding career paths.

Additional Information

Students will be expected to provide their own study materials such as pens, pencils, rulers, files, file paper and a graphical calculator. You are also expected to purchase course text books. Classes generally employ a wide range of teaching and learning techniques to cater for all students.

 

This course is delivered at our Kingston Hall Road centre.
