Student Oyster/Travel Information 2018/19

 

Make sure you apply for the correct student Oyster card or you could lose £20.

You must re-apply before  your current card expires on 31 September 2018.

Students aged 16–18 and living in a London Borough

All students aged 16 or 17 who live in a London borough can get free bus and tram travel with a 16+ Zip Oyster photocard. This also gives you discounted pay as you go fares on the London Underground, DLR, London Overground and National Rail services within London.

If you are aged 18 on the 31 August 2018 and you live in a London borough and you are in full time education (minimum of 15 hours per week) you can also apply for a 16+ Zip Oyster. 

A 16+ Zip Oyster card can also have a child rate 7 Day, Monthly or longer period Travelcard added onto it.

Applying for a 16+ Zip Oyster photocard is quick and easy. You must apply online and will need a credit or debit card for payment (£20).  You should receive your card in 7-10 days of applying; however it can take longer during September. For Students aged 16-18 and NOT living in a London Borough

Students who do not live in a London borough can use pay as you go at half the adult rate on all TfL services and most National Rail services in London with a 16+ Zip Oyster photocard.

Applying for a 16+ Zip Oyster photocard is quick and easy. You must apply online and will need a credit or debit card for payment (£20). You should receive your card in 7-10 days of applying; however it can take longer during September. Visit tfl.gov.uk/photocard for more information and to apply.

Students should check with their Local Authority if there are any travel concessions available to students.

Students living in Surrey should look at the Student Fare Card Scheme 

surreycc.gov.uk.

 

For Full Time Students aged 19+

If you are aged 19 or above on 31st August 2018, on a full time course (minimum 15 hours) and you live in a London Borough during term time, you may be eligible for an 18+ Student Oyster photocard. The 18+ gives you 30% discount on weekly and monthly Travelcards. Unfortunately part time students are not eligible , but can apply for support with travel costs via the College Bursary, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

Applying is quick and easy. You must apply online on the TFL website and you will need a credit or debit card for payment (£20). You will need to upload a photo, have your Kingston College ID number, course start and end dates and an active email address.  You should receive your card within 7-10 days of applying but may be longer during busy periods.

If you have a 16-25 Railcard, 16-25railcard.co.uk, you can add the discount to your 18+ Student Oyster photocard to get a 34% discount on off-peak pay as you go fares and off-peak daily caps on Tube, DLR, London Overground, TfL Rail and most National Rail services in London.

 

For Apprentices aged 18+

You can save 30% off adult-rate Travelcards and Bus & Tram Pass season tickets with an Apprentice Oyster Photocard. To apply visit the TFL website tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/adult-discounts-and-concessions/apprentice-oyster-photocard.

 

Please note that Kingston College’s only obligation is to confirm that a student is enrolled on a full time course. If you apply for the wrong Oyster card, the College is not able to offer a refund. All applications for student Oyster cards are administered by Transport for London.
