The uniformed, public/protective services play a vital role in the welfare and safety of people at home and abroad, on the front line and behind the scenes. Our Protective Services courses are designed to equip you with the knowledge, understanding and skills needed in your chosen career and will develop your confidence, initiative, independence, fitness and your approach to challenges. Career paths may include the Police Force, Ambulance Service, Armed Services, Air Force, Fire Service, Prison Service and Security.

Over the two years of the policing course learners cover a range of topics to prepare them for all entry routes in to the police service. The course content and extra-curricular activities provide learners with the fundamental underpinning knowledge and soft skills needed for entry to the police services.

The course has been developed with consideration to the requirements of modern-day policing by subject experts and industry experienced staff members. As part of the course we work closely with the local police force providing an industry specific learning experience

Combining the subjects of Policing, Psychology and Criminology provides a wide variety of progression careers including Human resources, recruitment, management consultancy, and corporate law

On the Policing, Psychology and Criminology Pathway students cover this diverse subject matter by taking classes in three different departments of the college, where they can benefit from the coaching of specialist, industry lecturers in Policing, Psychology and Criminology

This course will introduce you to the skills which you will need for your chosen service. It will be a mix of theory and practical sessions and you will have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers from a range of public service backgrounds.

The qualification will develop students skills and personal qualities in preparation for all areas of employment and provide a basis for further study and motivation towards career development. This qualification aims to promote positive attitudes and responses to differences in gender, social and cultural backgrounds and abilities of individuals ensuring you are prepared to enter into your chosen field of employment. It will also give you an opportunity to develop key critical skills such as leadership, teamwork, innovation and entreprise.

Students will be given the opportunity to undertake English/Maths GCSE if a Grade C/4 has not already been achieved.

The Foundation Diploma is a one year, full time Year 1 of the Level 3 Extended Diploma in uniformed protection services (public services), it is aimed at learners who want academic experience and who may aspire to apply to university. There is a good balance between coursework and practical work so this course will test your knowledge and skills. You will also develop critical skills such as leadership, teamwork, effective communication and problem solving skills

This qualification is equivalent to 1 1/2 A Levels, which means that when you have finished the course you may choose to go into full time employment. However, the natural progression is onto the Year 2 Extended Diploma in uniformed protection services Programme (with a maximum of 168 UCAS points being available).

If topping up into year two, most students progress to university to study a range of subjects. Recent graduates have secured places in Criminology, Paramedic Science, Forensic Science, Policing and Nursing at Russell Group universities (Exeter, Manchester, Durham, Nottingham, Southampton, Bristol, Cardiff & Kings). Limited Places, so early application is advised.

A National Foundation Diploma in Health & Social Care is a practical, work-related course. Your assignments are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and commitment demands. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you develop the skills you need to start a career including:

Emotional intelligence: in order to empathise with patients and act sensitively in difficult situations that others may be facing Communication: a core skill in many professions but especially in healthcare, where staff need to communicate effectively with patients and their families as well as with co-workers Teamwork: needed to work with colleagues for the good of a patient and this might mean taking on extra tasks and responsibilities Time management: when lives are at risk, it's crucial to prioritise what's important and the nature of the profession also means that you will often be pulled in different directions

This qualification is equivalent to 1½ A Levels and the natural progression is the year two Extended Diploma Programme.
