Studying A Level Physics will develop your understanding of the laws that govern the behaviours of the physical world around us, from the nuclei of atoms to the movement of stars and galaxies. This course gives you the opportunity to make clear links between Physics theory and its practical applications in real life situations, and to apply your understanding to familiar and more challenging new situations through a wide range of problem solving activities.
Course ContentContent is split into six teaching modules:
Module 1 - Development of practical skills in physics
Module 2 - Foundations of physics
Module 3 - Forces and motion
Module 4 - Electrons, waves and photons
Module 5 - Newtonian world and astrophysics
Module 6 - Particles and medical physics
Entry RequirementsA minimum of 5.5 points for your average GCSE score, Mathematics at grade B / 5, Double Science or Physics at grade B / 5 or above from the Higher Tier, English Language and at least two other GCSEs from our specified range of GCSE subjects at grade A*-C / 9-5 and a satisfactory reference.

Duration and DeliveryPhysics is a two year, full time, linear A level course. Over these two years the learners will be given the opportunity to gain a Practical Endorsment. This endorsment will be based on experimental work and be a clarification of experimental skills. At the end of the two years, A level grades will be based on written exams. This means there are no official exams after the first year.
ProgressionA Level Physics combines very well with Mathematics and other Sciences. Good mathematical and communication skills are essential. Physics A Level is highly regarded by universities and can lead to many rewarding career paths.
Additional InformationKingston College has well equipped laboratories for the study of Physics including up-to-date ILT supplemented by the College’s virtual learning environment, Moodle. There is a textbook published specifically for this specification and classes employ a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. This course is delivered at our Kingston Hall Road centre.
The specification is A Level in Physics (OCRA H556).
