An alternative route to University or Higher Education for students aged 19+ who have been out of education for at least a year, the Access to Higher Education Diploma - Business Studies is designed to give adult students, who may have left school early or have been out of education for a number of years, the opportunity to develop academic skills, confidence and knowledge before applying to university. This course requires a minimum of 90% attendance and the successful completion of 45 Level 3 credits and 15 Level 3 credits. The Access to HE Diplomas at Kingston College are nationally recognised qualifications and are awarded by The Open College Network London Region (OCNLR).
Course ContentThe programme is made up of a mixture of specialist subjects and a core support programme. Students will study a selection of specialist modules, for example, in Marketing, Business Management, HR and Business Planning. You will also study a compulsory Level 3 unit in Business Mathematics, covering statistics and probability. The remainder of the programme will comprise of Study Skills which are designed to provide all students with essential skills underpinning learning on the course and in undergraduate study for example note-taking, research methodologies and report-writing skills. Students will be supported in their studies and UCAS application through a tutorial session.
Entry Requirements Candidates are required to have GCSE English Language at grade C/4. If you do not have GCSE Maths at grade C/4 you may be given the opportunity to study this subject alongside your Access Diploma to achieve a grade 4 or above. Acceptance onto the GCSE course will be dependent on the result of an initial assessment. Please note that most universities will require a C/4 in GCSE Maths to gain entrance onto a Business Studies course. A satisfactory reference must be received.
Please note that it is the responsibility of the student to ensure their current and future qualifications comply with the entry requirements of any university to which they intend to progress. Experience in a related vocational area will support your application to higher education on completion of the Access Diploma. This course requires excellent time management, maturity of approach and a high level of commitment throughout the year.
Duration and DeliveryOne year, part time, typically two or three days a week in college.
ProgressionStudents who successfully achieve the Access Diploma are then eligible to apply for a degree in Business Studies, Business Management or a related area.

Please be aware that if you do not meet Home Student Residency status, you will be charged at the higher level fee.
