Access to Higher Education Diploma - Digital Marketing and Social Media

Access qualifications provide an alternative route to University or Higher Education for students aged 19+.  The Access to Higher Education Diploma - Digital Marketing and Social Media is for students who have a keen interest in the study of Digital Marketing and a high level of commitment.  One year's study provides students with an intensive introduction in a variety of areas of study including business communications, marketing, web development and social media.  Progression to further study at Degree level is encouraged and is the normal expectation for students obtaining this award; alternatively students may progress onto the HND or Foundation Degree in Business, offered by Kingston College.

Course Content

The course consists of modules designed to provide the basic business, marketing and development skills, plus study skills. Learners are also expected to complete an independent research project.

 

The modules listed below are indicative of the course content:

 

  • Study Skills - exam skills, note taking and note making, using information technology and an extended project;
  • The Business Context - business communication, business organisations and structures and principles of business management;
  • Digital Marketing – Metrics and analytics, market research and marketing concepts;
  • Web Design - You will design and develop a range of webpages and websites, you will also be introduced to web security and optimisation;
  • Social Media - Introduction t omedia communications and principles of social media advertising and promotion.

 

To obtain a pass in this Access course, a student will have to achieve a minimum of 45 credits at Level 3 and further 15 credits at Level 2 or at Level 3.  Total credits required - 60 for the Diploma.

Entry Requirements

This intensive course requires a maturity of approach and a high level of commitment.  A good level of English and Mathematics is required (Level 2 qualification) ideally with some knowledge of business or marketing. In addition, applicants need a satisfactory reference, successful interview and screening.

 

Applicants must have sufficient time to devote to their studies.

Duration and Delivery

Three days a week over one year (September start) approximately 15 hours per week including a one-hour tutorial.  Students are expected to undertake an additional 15 hours per week of unguided private study.

Progression

Successful student will progress onto a variety of Degrees including digital marketing, social media marketing and analytics.  Most universities require a minimum of 45 credits at Level 3 and many require some to be achieved at Merit or Distinction.
