Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy

The Apprenticeship framework is designed to meet the needs of employers and to provide a vocational pathway into a profession.  All Apprenticeship frameworks are designed to provide apprentices with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to perform their job role and to support their future progression.  Apprentices at this level will train in roles appropriate to their chosen profession, learning on the job practical skills working at a business three days and attending college two days each week.  This apprenticeship will typically train as Beauty Therapists.

Course Content

Mandatory Units to include:

  • Unit UB200B4 - Provide facial skin care treatment
  • Unit UB200B5 - Enhance the appearnace of eyebrows and eyelashes
  • Unit UB200B6 - Carry out waxing services
  • Unit UB200N2 - Provide manicure services
  • Unit UB200N3 - Provide pedicure services
  • Unit UG211G8 - Develop and maintain effectiveness at work
  • Unit UG21G18 - Promote additional services or products to customers
  • Unit UG31G20 - Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety

Optional Units are:

  • Unit UB200B8 - Provide make-up services
  • Unit UG211G4 - Fulfil salon reception duties


Entry Requirements

Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Maths or GCSE English and Maths at grade 3 or above together with a genuine intrest in the Beauty Therapy Industry.  Applicants must be employed in a Beauty Therapy salon at time of enrolment.  A letter from the employer will be required.  Applicants should have an excellent reference and possess a positive attitude towards their development and progression in the sector.  They will need to be successful in the interview process with Kingston College and an employer for an appropriate role in the beauty therapy environment.


Duration and Delivery

The length of time taken will depend on the ability of the individual apprentice and employer requirements.  The minimum duration exceptable for the completion of apprenticeships is 12 months and maximum is 18 months.  Successful applicants will learn on the job practical skills in the workplace 3 days per week and attend college two days per week.  This may include weekends, evenings and college holidays.  All students receive tutorial guidance and are set personal targets.



On successful completion of this course students may progress to study an Advanced Apprenticeship or employment.


Additional Information

A minimum of 90% attendance is crucial to complete the course.  Candidates are assessed in our Commercial Salon and in the workplace.  Evidence will be shown in the form of a portfolio.  Assessment will be continuous and students are required to demonstrate competency using a variety of tasks and will be assessed through portfolio and exam.  Learners will need to purchase their own kit and uniform for practical lessons. 

Students on this course aged 16-18 years are fully funded by the College

For students who are 19+ an Employer Contribution will be required

The course will be delivered at the Kingston College Kingston Hall Road Centre
