BTEC Level 1/2 First Certificate in Business

This course will give you a good and practical introduction to working in business whether retail, banking, insurance or accounting. During the course, you will work individually and in small groups developing the skills you need to work in business.

In addition you will study GCSE Mathematics and English Language to gain that all important grade C/4.

Content

During the course students are supported in developing their English and Mathematics skills and the course provides the opportunity to re-sit both GCSE Mathematics and English.

This course is made up of seven units, two core units (Enterprise in the Business World and Finance for Business) and five optional units.  Two units are assessed by external exam whilst the other units are assessed by coursework submission.

Throughout the course you will learn how businesses work and develop the skills needed to work in Finance, Marketing, Human Resources and Customer Service.   You will have opportunities to visit real businesses such as Chelsea FC and Coca Cola.  There is also the potential to undertake a work experience placement during the course.

Entry Requirements

To enrol on the course you need four GCSEs at grade A*-D/9-3, including English Language and Mathematics. A satisfactory reference plus attendance of at least 95% from your last school or college is required.

Duration and Delivery

One year, full time.

Progression

The course provides progression routes into work or further study at Level 3. The course will help develop your employability skills including team work, communication and numeracy skills and provide an insight into a variety of business sectors such as retail, banking and insurance.  Upon completing the course you will be able to progress onto the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business which is equivalent to three A Levels.

Progression onto Level 3 is subject to a satisfactory reference, achieving your target grade and having average attendance of 95% or higher.

Additional Information

We expect you to improve your English and Mathematics during this year.  This course allows you the opportunity to re-sit both GCSE Mathematics and English.
