This course will provide you with a good and practical introduction into Business and IT. During the course you will work individually and in small groups developing the skills you need to work in Business and IT.
Course ContentDuring the course students are supported in developing their English and Mathematics skills and the course provides the opportunity to either re-sit both GCSE Mathematics and English or study these as Functional skills. The course is made up of ten units, four core units (Being Organised, Developing a Personal Progression Plan, Working with Others and Researching a Topic), and six optional units. The course is currently 100% coursework and you will be assessed in a variety of ways – presentations, role plays and time-limited exercises.
Throughout the course you will learn a variety of topics based on the Business and IT sectors. You will have the opportunity to visit real businesses such as local tourist attractions. You will meet with your personal tutor for group meetings and for one to one meetings on a regular basis.
Entry RequirementsThis course is aimed at 16-18 year olds. Students should have three graded GCSEs which should include English and Mathematics. Applicants should be able to show an interest in Business; provide a satisfactory school reference as well as attendance of at least 95% at their last school or college. All applicants will be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course and are required to complete a written task as part of the interview/selection process.
Duration and Delivery
ProgressionThe course provides progression routes into work, apprenticeship or further study at level 2. The course will help develop your employability skills including team work, communication and numeracy skills and provide an insight into a variety of topics such as Exploring a Local Tourist Attraction and Creating a Spreadsheet to Solve Problems. Progression onto level 2 is subject to a satisfactory reference, achieving your target grades and having average attendance of 95% or higher.
Additional InformationWe expect you to improve your English and Mathematics during this year. This course allows you the opportunity to re-sit both Functional skills or GCSE Mathematics and English.
Guest speakers are invited in to talk to students as part of the college’s Inspiring Future’s programme and provide insights into various careers as well as how to start your own business. There is also the potential to undertake a work experience placement during the course.
