This is equivalent to one and a half A Levels. You will develop practical skills and a theoretical understanding of the business world. You will look in depth at finance, human resources and marketing and be introduced to legal subjects.
Course ContentYou will develop practical skills and a theoretical understanding of the world of business. You will complete projects investigating topics such as marketing, financial analysis, website design and retail strategies, for example. By the time you have completed the course you will have a good knowledge of the wide world of business and a practical skill set that will prepare you for the next stage in your business career.
During the course you will develop your group work, IT and presentation skills. The units you will study include elements of accounting, marketing, human resource management and website design. You will have a personal tutor who supports and guides you through the course. You will meet with your personal tutor for group meetings and for personal one to one meetings on a regular basis.
The course is currently 100% coursework and you will be assessed in a variety of ways - presentations, role plays and time-limited exercises.
Entry RequirementsFour GCSEs grade A*-C/9-4, including Mathematics and English or a Merit in Level 2 BTEC Business plus minimum GCSE grade C/4 in English and Mathematics plus satisfactory reference from last school or college.
Duration and Delivery
ProgressionBTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business and thereafter a wide range of employment opportunities in business. There may be some opportunities for those wishing to progress directly to university. Future careers for you include accounting, banking, insurance, human resources, marketing and sales. In addition, we will prepare you for starting your own business or perhaps a career in e-business.
Additional InformationWe will give you enrichment opportunities including visits and practical hands on, work-related experiences. Activities include visits and case studies relating to real life businesses; students have previously visited Thorpe Park, London Zoo and Madam Tussauds. Future trips planned include Arsenal Football Stadium and the Coca Cola plant in Edmonton. Guest speakers are invited in to talk to students. The course content is subject to change due to a pending revalidation of the course specification by Pearson Edexcel.
