The subsidiary course is the equivalent of one A Level. You will develop practical skills and a theoretical understanding of the world of business.
Course ContentYou will look in depth at finance, human resources and marketing. A stepping stone course to the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business for those with four GCSEs at the grades indicated above or a top-up course for extra UCAS points and knowledge prior to university. GCSE English or Mathematics if a grade C/4 has not been attained.
During the course you will develop your group work, IT and presentation skills. The units you will study include elements of accounting, marketing, human resource management and website design. You will have a personal tutor who supports and guides you through the course. You will meet with your personal tutor for group meetings and for personal one to one meetings on a regular basis.
The course is currently 100% coursework and you will be assessed in a variety of ways - presentations, role plays and time-limited exercises.
Entry RequirementsFour GCSEs at grades A*-C/9-4 including English Language or Mathematics or have completed and passed a BTEC Level 2 (Extended) Certificate in Business at Merit plus grade A*-C/9-4 in either GCSE English Language or Mathematics. as well as a satisfactory reference from last school or college.

ProgressionBTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business (a one year course providing an additional A Level equivalent on top of the Subsidiary Diploma), HND Business and BA (Hons) Business.
Additional InformationWe will give you enrichment opportunities including visits and practical hands on, work-related experiences. Activities include visits and case studies relating to real life businesses; students have previously visited Thorpe Park, London Zoo and Madam Tussauds. Future trips planned include Arsenal Football Stadium and the Coca Cola plant in Edmonton. Guest speakers are invited in to talk to students. The course content is subject to change due to a pending revalidation of the course specification by Pearson Edexcel.
