This course is the equivalent of one A Level. You will develop practical skills and a theoretical understanding of the world of business.
Course ContentYou will look in depth at finance, human resources and marketing. A stepping stone course to the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business for those with four GCSEs at the grades indicated above or a top-up course for extra UCAS points and knowledge prior to university. GCSE English or Mathematics if a grade C/4 has not been attained.
During the course you will develop your group work, IT and presentation skills. The units you will study include elements of accounting, marketing, human resource management and website design. You will have a personal tutor who supports and guides you through the course. You will meet with your personal tutor for group meetings and for personal one to one meetings on a regular basis.
The course is a combination of coursework and exams in finance and marketing. You will be assessed in a variety of ways - presentations, role plays and time-limited exercises.
Entry RequirementsFour GCSEs at grades 4/C or above plus GCSEs in both English and Mathematics are required, one of which must be achieved at a minimum grade 4/C and the other at a minimum grade 3/D; or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Business at Merit level plus GCSEs in English and Mathematics, one of which must be achieved at a minimum grade 4/C and the other a minimum grade 3/D (progressing students only) as well as a satisfactory reference from your last school or college.

ProgressionBTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business (a one year course providing an additional A Level equivalent on top of the BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Business), HND Business and BA (Hons) Business.
Additional InformationWe will give you enrichment opportunities including visits and practical hands on, work-related experiences. Activities include visits and case studies relating to real life businesses; students have previously visited Thorpe Park, London Zoo and Madam Tussauds. Future trips planned include Arsenal Football Stadium and the Coca Cola plant in Edmonton. Guest speakers are invited in to talk to students.
