Advanced Apprenticeship for the Children & Young People’s Workforce (Early Years Educator Pathway)

This Apprenticeship pathway develops knowledge and skills relating to the Early Years Educator (i.e. those working with children from birth to 5 years, and gaining knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years, within a setting which provides care and education for children across this age range. It is suitable for those looking to join the Early Years Workforce and those already working in the sector.

 

This Apprenticeship pathway also supports the development of a highly qualified, well skilled workforce within the Early Years sector, and ensures that children and young people accessing services in England gain the best possible care and support.

Course Content

The course is structured around four themes:

  • Health and wellbeing
  • Legislation, frameworks and professional practice
  • Play, development and learning for school rediness
  • Professional development

Entry Requirements

All applicants must be at least 16 years old and will need grade C/4 or above in GCSE English Language and Mathematics and two other GCSE's at C/4 or a Level 2 Diploma in Childcare (overall Merit Grade).  Satisfactory reference and interview.  Employment for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a Childcare setting.

Duration and Delivery

Up to 2 years to complete the programme with one evening per week at College and possibly one day release if GCSEs or ICT need to be completed.

 

Progression

On successful completion of this Apprenticeship, learners can apply for CACHE Level 4 Advanced Early Years Practitioner or a Foundation Degree programme in a relevant study area. A number of opportunities exist which can lead ultimately to BA in Early Childhood studies.
