CACHE Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Setting (16-19 year olds)

The CACHE Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children and Young People’s Settings is suitable for 16-19 year olds. This qualification is aimed at people considering a career in health and/or social care with adults or children and young people and will develop  knowledge and awareness of the types of provision in these  sectors. This includes the roles played by workers – from principles and values through to health and safety and working with others. This qualification does not qualify students to work directly with adults, children or young people but provides a starting point for deciding whether a career in the sector is right for them.

 

Course Content

This will include looking at the range of roles within Health and Social Care (adults, children and young people), early years and chilcare, awareness for protection and safeguarding and an introduction to communication.  To gain this qualification, students must achieve a minimum of 37 credits: 20 credits from the mandatory units, and a minimum of 17 credits from the optional units. Students study a number of units including:

 

  • The range of service provision and roles within health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
  • The principles and values in health and social care 
  • Awareness of protection and safeguarding in health and social care 
  • Introduction to communication in health and social care
  • Introductory awareness of equality and inclusion in health and social care
  • Introductory awareness of health and safety in health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings
  • Introductory awareness of the importance of healthy eating and drinking for adults
  • Introduction to the physical care of babies and young children
  • Introductory awareness of person-centred support in health and social care and children and young people’s settings
  • Introduction to children and young people’s development
  • Introduction to the development of children and young people through play
  • Introduction to learning disability
  • Introduction to healthy life style

Entry Requirements

Four graded GCSE's to include English Language at grade E/2.  Selection is by interview with tutors and a satisfactory reference from your last school or college is essential.  Learners on this course are encouraged to undertake voluntary work.

Duration and Delivery

One year, full-time.

Progression

You may progress to the CACHE Level 2 Certificate or a BTEC Health & Social Care course.  Selection is by interview and a satisfactory reference is required.  However, you could consider further training or study in related fields such as an Apprenticeship or employment.

This is a full time course and there is no tuition charge for students under the age of nineteen.
