The BTEC First Qualification is a Level 2 certificate course for learners wanting an introduction to Early Years Education and childcare. The knowledge, understanding and skills learnt in studying a BTEC First Early Years Certificate will aid progression to further study and prepare learners to enter the workforce in due course.
Course ContentStudents will undertake practical training in various childcare establishments through work placement hours, and study core units in childcare on site at Kingston College. We will help arrange for you to complete your DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, formally known as the CRB check, and this will be explained to you at enrolment.
The BTEC First Certificate allows for a pass mark differentiation. This means that you can pass the certificate at either pass, merit or distinction level which will then determine your overall qualification grade with either a level 1 or level 2 pass mark.
Entry RequirementsThree GCSEs at grade D/3, to include English Langauge and Maths, or you will have successfully passed a level 1 course with functional skills in English and Maths. Successful interview and reference are required, plus a DBS police check for the work placement.
Duration and DeliveryOne year - full-time to include 1 working day on placement in a nursery setting for the duration of the course.
ProgressionBTEC Firsts motivate learners and opens doors to progression into further study and responsibility within the workplace. On completion, this course will act as a stepping stone towards a level 3 Early Years qualification or enrolment onto an apprenticeship course.
