Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction Course

Learn ways to improve your mental wellbeing in the face of life's challenges.

 

This is an eight-week programme which will improve self-awareness of individual response to stressful situations and explore new ways of responding.  Using proven techniques the programme seeks to enhance physical, emotional and mental health.

 

Taught by an experienced practitioner, each week, participants explore and  build on  a variey of relaxation, meditation, breathing tehniques and cognitive skills.  For maximum benefit, daily practice of the techniques taught, is encouraged.  A detailed workbook accompanies the programme.

 

 

Course Content

• Meditating on the breath, body and sounds
• Learning to observe how thoughts arise
• Meditating whilst moving
• The Three Minute Breathing Space – acknowledging, gathering, expanding
• Learning to respond rather than react
• Living in the present
• Dropping judgement – being compassionate
• Thought traps
• Home practice encourages mindfulness in simple activities

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, however a willingness to set aside 30 minutes daily practice for the duration of the course is essential. Applicants will be contacted by the course tutor for further discussions.

Duration and Delivery

The course is run for two hours on a Monday (19:00-21:00) over an eight week period.
Next course start date: Mid January 2018.

Progression

Successful completion of this course would also prove valuable to anyone considering applying for the Level 2 and Level 3 Counselling courses.

 

Students studying the B A (Hons) Integrative- Relational Counselling and particularly those in Year 2, find this course extremely useful.

2017/18 Course fees are £200. The fees are payable upon enrolment and are non-refundable.
