BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering (180 credit)

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma is a full-time Engineering course and continues on from the one year, BTEC Level 3 in Engineering. This course is equivalent to three A Levels. It provides the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in the design, development and manufacture and maintenance of engineering products and systems. The course is practical, work related and follows a manufacturing pathway developed by BTEC. Learning is achieved through the completion of projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.  There may also be some external assessments.  The course is suitable for school leavers and young adults.

  • Computer Numerical Control (CNC)
  • Further Mechanical Principles
  • Further Mathematics


These actual units offered are subject to review and might differ from those listed above. Students with weaker grades in the Year One would not be allowed to do units such as Further Mechanical Principles, Further Mathematics and CNC.

Entry Requirements

Successful completion of the Year One BTEC Level 3 in Engineering. Satisfactory references and attendance record.

Duration and Delivery

One year, full-time.

Progression

BTEC Level 3 180-Credit Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels and is an entry qualification to various universities. Alternatively, students can progress onto the Higher National Certificate (HNC) Engineering course at Kingston College or seek employment as an Advanced Engineering Apprentice.  Students can also progress on to the Higher National Diploma (HND) on successful completion of the HNC programme.
