NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems

This day release course, taken over two years is an ideal progression from the Level 2 qualification also offered at Kingston College. It covers two pathways, Installation or Maintenance.

 

Course Content

INSTALLATION PATHWAY:

 

Knowledge units include:

 

Health and safety legislation, practices and procedures; Environmental legislation, working practices and the principles of environmental technology systems; Practices and procedures for the preparation and installation of wiring systems and Electrotechnical Equipment in buildings, structures and the Environment; Principles, practices and legislation for the termination and connection of conductors, cables and cords in electrical systems;  Principles, practices and legislation for diagnosing and correcting electrical faults in Electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment; Electrical principles associated with the design, building, installation and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems.

 

Performance Units will be assessed in a real life, live environment (practical assessment at work) they can include:

 

Health and safety practices and procedures; Environmental working practices and principles of environmental technology systems; Working practices and the principles of environmental technology systems; Preparation and installation of wiring systems and Electrotechnical Equipment in buildings, structures and the Environment; Practices and principles for the Inspection, Testing, Commissioning and certification of Electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment; Practices and principles for diagnosing and correcting electrical faults in Electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment.

 

The course also includes an AM2 Trade test, a 5 day practical assessment at an external assessment centre.

 

MAINTENANCE PATHWAY:

 

Maintenance knowledge units are similar to the above Installation units but also include:

 

Practices and procedures for maintaining Electrotechnical systems and equipment; Understanding the practices and procedures for overseeing and organising the work environment; Practices and procedures for maintaining Electrotechnical systems and equipment.

 

Performance Units will be assessed in a real life, live environment (practical assessment at work) they can include:

 

Health and safety practices and procedures; Environmental working practices and principles of environmental technology systems; Practices and procedures for maintaining Electrotechnical systems and equipment.

 

The course also includes an AM2 Trade test, a 5 day practical assessment at an external assessment centre.

Entry Requirements

Employment in an appropriate electrical organisation. Three GCSEs to include Maths. English and Science at grade C/4 or above and three further GCSEs.

Duration and Delivery

The course runs over two years - day release, one day a week.

Progression

On successful completion of the final year you will gain a NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment. You can then progress to Inspection and Testing, Requirements for the 17th Edition, and BTEC Higher National Courses.
