Level 2 Coaching and Leadership

This qualification gives aspiring coaches and sports leaders a fantastic opportunity to enhance their skills by acquiring a mix of professional qualifications. This course gives learners the opportunity to enhance coaching skills through a variety of sports.  Learners will be able to develop their coaching skills by coaching various age groups including Primary School children.


Course Content

  • Customer Service
  • Equality & Diversity
  • Working in a team
  • Planning an activity session
  • Leading a coaching session
  • Conclude and review a coaching session
  • Health and Safety

Candidates are assessed during practical simulated situations. Evidence must be shown in the form of a portfolio. Assessment will be continuous and students are required to demonstrate competency in a variety of tasks.  Learners who are under 19 and have not achieved grade C in GCSE English / maths will have to complete GCSE / functional skills in this area.

Entry Requirements

Minimum of four GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including English or successful completion of a Level 1 Preparation for Sport and Uniformed Services and plus Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English.  Entry is also subject to successful interview and an excellent reference. Learners on the course are encouraged to undertake voluntary or part time coaching work.

Duration and Delivery

One year, full time.  This will also include 8am start and 5pm finishing times.  This course will also include you working in schools alongside your studies.  You will also gain practical work experience within the College Arena.


On successful completion of this course, students may apply for any related Level 3 qualification, including the Advanced Apprenticeship in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport, now available at Kingston College. You can also look to complete the Level 2 Fitness Instructor then Level 3 Personal Trainer.

Additional Information

Additional National governing body qualifications are organised by the College and you can book onto these to supplement your knowledge and experience, however these are at an additional cost to yourself.
