Citizenship – this is a 9-1 full GCSE in an interesting a diverse subject that will help not only academically but also in becoming a socially active and responsible member of society. By the end of this qualification, you be able to effectively research, critically analyse and debate about current social issues and deepen your knowledge of UK law and politics. This qualification will consist of two exams which you will take in the summer.
Vocational Studies Award & Personal Social Development Award - Both these qualifications will consist of written assignments based on different subject ranging from Web Design to working as an effective team. All assignments will be based on what you have learnt in class, the challenge is for you to further develop this knowledge and display your understanding by set deadlines. These units will be based on subjects that you could potentially study next year. If you are unsure what you would like to study in the future this gives you the opportunity to find out more about different subjects.. Constant support and feedback will be given throughout these qualifications in order for you to achieve the best grade you can and meet the set deadlines.
Work Experience – This is a fundamental part of the course and all students will need to take part in one weeks' work experience if they want to continue their studies at Kingston College. Students will be expected to apply and successfully secure a work placement by the agreed deadline. Tutors will help with applications and interview tips. All students will have access to employment opportunities through the colleges' work experience team.
NCS Challenge – Students will have the opportunity to take part in the National Citizenship Service as part of the Pathway course. NCS is a four-phase programme specifically designed to provide you with all sorts of new experiences. Whether you’re a daredevil or creative genius, talkative or more reserved, you’ll be surprised by how much you’re actually capable of, coming away with a host of new skills and bags of confidence.
If you are thinking of joining Pathway in Year 11 there is an additional part to the process. You will need to be referred by your sponsoring school, or other agency. If you are a year 11 age applicant you must have permission to attend College from your parents/carers and we must receive official authorisation from the necessary school or agency.
