Science GCSE - Evening

This is the GCSE Combined Science: Trilogy (Evening) course. It is an ideal qualification for adult students considering taking a broader-based approach to Science as it has elements from each of the main science subjects. This is a good subject to consider if you are thinking about a possible career in teaching or nursing where a Science GCSE at 4 or better is usually compulsory.

Course Content

This course is equivalent to two GCSEs. This is the linear 9-1 GCSE qualification. A linear qualification means that students must sit all their exams at the end of the course in June. The qualification can be taken at either Foundation Tier or Higher Tier. The lessons will involve a mixture of classroom based lectures and practical lessons in our specialist science laboratories. The syllabus studies a combination of Biology, Chemistry and Physics

The course is assessed by six written exams, each worth 50% of the final marks. The exam questions will be a mixture of multiple choice; structured; closed short answer and open response questions.

Entry Requirements

We normally expect applicants to this course to have already achieved a Grade D / 3 at GCSE in a Science subject. However, if you have not taken this GCSE course before, or have studied abroad, we may ask you to complete a short diagnostic test at interview to assess your English and maths skills.

Duration and Delivery

1 year, part time 2 evenings a week. Students will need to attend lessons on both Tuesdays from 18.30-21.30 and Thursdays from 18.30-21.30. This is an intensive course requiring full commitment and attendance.

Progression

Level 3 qualifications in science.
