Level 2 Certificate in Barbering (16-18 Years)

In 2020 there was a rise in the number of independent businesses on the high street and Barbers is one of the three top rated retail categories showing the highest growth. At the end of 2020, there was an increase of 800 new barber shops.

This course aims to provide learners with a range of essential and practical skills and knowledge to equip them for employment or further training in the barbering industry. These skills will include services such as shampooing, conditioning, cutting men's hair, drying and finishing men's hair and creating basic outlines in the hair.

  • Entry Requirements


    We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    You will provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

    4 x GCSE's at D/3 or above, or a Level 1 Diploma in a relevant subject.

    Your GCSE profile must include either maths and / or English , or a Functional Skills qualification in maths and / or English.

  • Course Content


    This qualification covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training or to enter into employment in the barbering industry. Learners will study the following mandatory content:

    • Working in hair industry
    • Follow Health & Safety practices in the salon
    • Client consultation for hair services
    • Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
    • Cut men's hair
    • Cut facial hair
    • Styling men's hair
    • Promote products and services to clients in a salon
  • Progression Next Steps


    Achievement of this qualification demonstrates to an employer that you have the essential skills and knowledge of health and safety, customer service and also the necessary technical skills to be employed as a barber, either in a barber shop, a hairdressing salon or hotel. You can also progress onto Level 3 Certificate in Barbering. Learners may also continue training on a Level 2 Hairdressing Apprenticeship providing they have a clear disciplinary record.

  • Additional Information


    September start. One-year, up to four days a week at College with one day work experience working in a salon each week. A minimum of 150 hours must also be gained working in the College Headmasters Academy salon.
