This course offers the opportunity to develop skills in hairdressing, providing the foundation for a range of work opportunities in an industry that is both interesting and varied.
This qualification covers all the core skills and knowledge to equip you to seek employment or further training within the hairdressing industry. The skills you will learn include services such as shampooing, conditioning, styling, dressing and setting hair, cutting and colouring.

All students receive tutorial guidance and are set personal targets to ensure satisfactory progress on the course.
Entry RequirementsApplicants must be 16 years of age at the start of the course and have 3 GCSE's at grade 3 (D) to include English or Maths at grade 4 (C). Good IT skills are essential as is access to a computer and the internet outside of college. Satisfactory references, successful interview and diagnostic screening is required prior to any placement offer.
Duration and DeliveryOne year, up to 3 - 4 days a week in College, plus one day a week work experience in a salon. A minimum of 150 hours must also be gained working in our College Headmasters Academy salon.
Progression This qualification is an intermediate level, where some experience is developing skills may still be required. In order to develop a wider skill set, we recommend progressing onto a Level 2 Barbering certificate which would widen your career choices before undertaking a Level 3 Hairdressing or Barbering qualification. Providing a clear disciplinary record and minimum 90% attendance have been achieved mostly merit/distinction grades. This qualification could also lead you to an apprentice as a Hair Professional.
Additional InformationAll learners will receive tutorial guidance and are set personal targets to ensure satisfactory progress on the course. Learners will need to purchase their own kit and uniform for practical lessons. To be awardedCandidates are assessed during practical 'on the job' situations. Assessment will be continuous and students are required to demonstrate competency in a variety of tasks.
