Course ContentThis level is ideal if you are new to the Hair and Beauty Industry or want to develop your knowledge and skills in order to progress in your career.
Each unit will enable learners to gain an understanding of the hairdressing and beauty therapy industry and the vocational skills and knowledge required for employment.
During this 1 year course - learners will study the following content:
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp.
- Set and dress hair.
- Colour and lighten hair.
- Advise and consult clients
- Blow dry and style hair
- Cut Ladies Hair
- Health, Safety & Hygiene
- Style hair with electrical equipment
- Anatomy and physiology.
- Hair removal.
- Facial and skin analysis.
- Lash/brow treatments.
Entry RequirementsStudents must be 16 at the start of the course and have three GCSEs at grade C (4) or above to include English and Maths. Good IT skills are essential and access to a computer and internet from outside of College will be required. A satisfactory school reference is required together with a successful interview and diagnostic screening prior to enrolment.
Duration and DeliverySeptember start. This is a one-year full-time programme. Attendance will be up to 5 days a week at College. Students will need to complete a minimum of 5 days work experience in each year. A minimum of 150 hours must also be gained working in our College Headmasters Academy/beauty salon.
ProgressionThis qualification will allow learners to progress into employment or onto the Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Hairdressing or the Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Beauty Therapy. A clear disciplinary record and at least 90% attendance is required to progress onto the Level 3 courses. This qualification could also lead to an apprenticeship in Hairdressing or Beauty.
Additional InformationAll learners will receive tutorial guidance and are set personal targets to ensure satisfactory progress on the course. Learners will need to purchase their own kit and uniform for practical lessons. To be awarded candidates are assessed during practical 'on the job' situations. Assessment will be continuous and students are required to demonstrate competency in a variety of tasks.
