This course aims to provide learners with a range of essential and practical skills and knowledge to equip them for employment or further training in the barbering industry. These skills will include services such as shampooing, conditioning, cutting men's hair, drying and finishing men's hair and creating basic outlines in the hair. This qualification is suitable for anyone over the age of 19 years.
Course ContentThis qualification covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training or to enter into employment in the barbering industry. Learners will study the following mandatory content:
- Working in hair industry
- Follow Health & Safety practices in the salon
- Client consultation for hair services
- Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
- Cut men's hair
- Cut facial hair
- Styling men's hair
- Promote products and services to clients in a salon
Entry RequirementsGood IT skills are essential, as is access to a computer and internet away from College. Successful interview and diagnostic screening are required prior to any placement offer. The College offers a variety of Barbering options and will direct applicants to the most suitable course depending on their level of experience.
Duration and DeliveryOne-year, up to two days a week (this will include some evenings) at College with one day work experience working in a salon each week. A minimum of 150 hours must also be gained working in the College Headmasters Academy salon.
ProgressionAchievement of this qualification demonstrates to an employer that you have the essential skills and knowledge of health and safety, customer service and also the necessary technical skills to be employed as a barber, either in a barber shop, a hairdressing salon or hotel. Learners may also continue training on a Level 2 Hairdressing Apprenticeship providing they have a clear disciplinary record and a minimum 90% attendance.
Additional InformationLearners will need to purchase their own kit and uniform for practical lessons. All students receive tutorial guidance and are set personal targets to ensure satisfactory progress on the course.
