Creative Media Production is an exciting and challenging course which encourages you to critically engage with and evaluate a broad range of moving image products. The course is designed to provide an educational foundation for a range of careers in the media industry and allied sectors.
The National 540 Diploma qualification is a one year full-time course, equivalent to 1.5 A-levels and is for learners looking to study creative media as a one-year full-time course.
The natural progression on successful completion is into a second year for completion of a full National 1080 Extended Diploma; which is equivalent to three A-levels. Some mature students however may choose to progress from the 540 Diploma one year course, directly into employment or alternative training.
Course ContentIn this first year you will develop a range of theoretical and practical media skills, from film making and the production of a single camera short film, TV studio multi camera work, animation, radio, graphic design, photography, journalism, marketing and social media. You will also learn critical employability skills such as how to write, plan, direct, produce, edit and promote your own film.
Entry RequirementsFour GCSEs at grades A*-C/9-4, including English or equivalent Level 2 qualification. Evidence of media work, successful interview and satisfactory reference.
For second year entry (Extended Diploma) onto the Creative Media Practice pathway, successful completion of a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma and satisfactory reference.
International Entry RequirementsHigh School Leaving Certificate Grade C or above or other related comparable qualifications. Satisfactory reference and portfolio of work. IELTS 5.0 or an equivalent English Language Certificate.
Duration and Delivery
ProgressionThe Extended Diploma in Creative Media Practice is an ideal route for students looking to progress to universities or on to our Foundation Degree (FdA) in Media Skills. However, a significant number use the BTEC Level 3 National Diploma as a direct step into a career in the media industry.
Additional InformationWhile some materials and equipment are provided, you will be expected to provide your own camera, hard drive and materials, much of which is available from the College Shop. There will also be a number of trips and visits throughout the course which will incur some costs.
