The course covers all aspects of actor training. You will study a range of acting techniques from Stanislavski and Brecht to movement and voice, as well as skills for working on TV and Film. This is a practical course that is underpinned with theory and business skills. You will have the opportunity to become fully involved in the process of performance from directing and writing to critical evaluation.
Elements of this course aim to prepare you for film, television and radio work, as well as live theatre. The 90 Credit qualification is a core skills one year full-time course and is equivalent to 1.5 A-levels. The natural progression on successful completion is into a second year for completion of a full Extended Diploma onto either a Musical Theatre or Acting pathway; the Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A-levels. Some mature students however may choose to progress from the 90 Credit one year course directly into employment or alternative training.
The College has two fully equipped theatres: the ACT (Arthur Cotterell Theatre) and Studio 101, together with a TV studio and access to costume and make-up facilities. You will also benefit from being involved with the films and videos made by our students following the Media courses.
Course ContentAll Performing Arts courses consist of practical sessions, lectures, workshops and performances covering a range of skills and knowledge and consist of core and specialist elements. In addition we also give you the chance to gain additional qualifications, this might mean a re-sit GCSE or an opportunity to study an AS/A2 Level alongside your main qualification.

You will have the opportunity to join Performing Arts theatre visits both in this country and abroad. Students will take part in external workshops such as creative projects with the Donmar Warehouse, London.

For entry onto the first year Performing Arts course (BTEC Level 3 90 Credit) four GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, BTEC L2 Diploma (Merit), or BTEC Extended Certificate (Merit) plus one GCSE at C/4 or above. Profile must include English or Mathematics GCSE at C/4 or above. Satisfactory reference , interivew, audition. Equivalent qualifications will be considered.
For second year entry onto the Acting pathway (Extended Diploma) successful completion of a BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma Performing Arts and a satisfactory reference.

For second year entry onto the Acting pathway (Extended Diploma) successful completion of a BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Dance, Acting, Performance/Musical Theatre and satisfactory reference. IELTS 5.0 or equivalent certificate.
Duration and DeliveryThe BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma is a full time one year course. If you choose to continue onto a second year pathway you will achieve a full Extended Diploma which is equivalent to three A Levels. On satisfactory completion of a 90 Credit qualification you will automatically be transferred to the second year to gain the Extended Diploma on a pathway of your choosing – Acting, Dance, Performance or Musical Theatre.
Progression The natural progression, upon successful completion, is onto the second year for completion of the full Extended Diploma. Some mature students choose to progress onto an HNC, further training or into employment.
Students who complete the Extended Diploma Acting can progress to Higher Education; many progress onto our in-house HNC Performing Arts or BA (Hons) Acting for Stage and Media, while others many win places either at alternative Universities or at specialist Performing Arts institutions to follow degree courses in performance-related areas.
However, we also expect that many will use this course as a direct step into a career in theatre, film, television or other related creative industries employment.
