Higher Apprenticeship Operational/Departmental Manager

Apprenticeships are flexible and are designed to offer a structured programme of learning to fit around the needs of the individual and employer.

Learning takes place mainly during employment  through the development of ‘on the job’ skills, supported by college tuition which will take place one day a week. Both the 'on and off job' elements of the apprenticeship lead to nationally recognised qualifications.

This apprenticeship is suited to people who manage teams and/or projects, and who are achieving operational or departmental goals and objectives as part of the delivery of the organisations strategy.

Key responsibilities are likely to include creating and delivering operational plans, managing projects, leading and managing teams, managing change, financial and resource management, talent management, coaching and mentoring.

 Roles and Occupations may include; Operations Manager, Regional Manager, Department Manager and Specialist Managers.

Note that the apprentices will undertake the level 5 Diploma from CMI - Chartered Management Institute - to underpin these skills, knowledge and behaviours which will lead to an additional standalone qualification.

Note that Apprentices without level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to completion of their Apprenticeship.

Entry requirements

Typically five GCSEs at Grade C or above ideally including English and Mathematics

Duration and Delivery

Typically this apprenticeship lasts 2 ½ years and will require study at Kingston college one day a week (excluding Easter, Christmas and August).

The course will use a mix of on line resources, academic texts and knowledge input from experienced qualified teachers and blended learning.

To achieve final qualification an end point assessment will need to take place to test skills, knowledge and behaviour.

The cost of this apprenticeship is £9,000. However, if you are a non-levy payer the government will fund 90% of this course.
