The Level 3 Foundation Diploma / Extended Certificate in Protective Services is a one year programme that will give you an insight into the different uniformed services, from fire-fighters, the army and the police to mountain rescue. This qualification will help you understand the importance of team work and effective communication within the Protective Services. The natural progression is to the Year 2 Level 3 Extended Diploma / Diploma in Protective Services.
Course ContentThis course provides learners with an excellent grounding in the skills and knowledge needed for a career in protective services or progression on to the next level.

- Behaviour and discipline in the uniformed protective services
- Physical preparation, health and well-being
- Teamwork, leadership and communication in the uniformed protective services
- Introduction to criminology
- Police powers and the law
Entry RequirementsFor the Foundation Diploma requires Five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, to include English Language and Mathematics. For the Extended Certificate requires Four GCSE's at grade C/4 or above to include English Language or Mathematics. Successful completion of the Level 2 NCFE Entry Diploma in Uniform Services with GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent). Applicants should also have an excellent reference and a successful interview.
Duration and Delivery
ProgressionMost students progress onto the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma/Diploma in Protective Services (Year 2) and from there into employment or Higher Education. Successful completion of this course will enable you to gain employment in various uniformed and non-uniformed protective services including the army, police, fire services and custodial care. Students have also progressed onto further study to become paramedics.
Additional InformationEarly application is advisable as this course is very popular. You will take part in a residential trip as part of this course which will include land and water-based activities and adventurous activities.
