This Apprenticeship provides the skills, knowledge and competence required to work within a laboratory. A laboratory technician may carry out both routine and one-off laboratory testing and perform a variety of technical support functions across the organisation. Laboratory technicians are expected to work both individually and as part of a laboratory team. They are able to work with minimum supervision, taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of the work that is undertaken.

Learning takes place mainly during employment through the development of ‘on the job’ skills, supported by ‘off the job’ training which will take place at Kingston College, typically for one day per week.

Higher level apprentices will train in roles appropriate to their chosen profession, learning on the job practical skills working at a business four days and attending college one day each week. The duration of an apprenticeship course is a minimum of 12 months. What do you need to know?
