BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Sport and Exercise Science

The Level 3 Certificate in Sport and Exercise Science is aimed at learners who are currently on the Men's Football Academy. The natural progression if the student does not progress into the football industry is onto the year 2 Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science Programme.

Recent students have secured contracts with professional clubs such as Huddersfield Town, QPR and Charlton AFC. (Check out the news tab for success stories).

Course Content

The Level 3 Certificate is a one year course. The course deals with the scientific themes and concepts of sport and exercise science and aims to provide studies in sport which are directly related to the changing needs of employers in specific areas of the sport science industry.

Modules studied include:

  • Anatomy for Football
  • Sport and Exercise Physiology (football related) 
  • Sport and Exercise Psychology (football related).

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade C or above which must include English and Mathematics. Level 2 Extended Certificate/Diploma in Sport - Merit grade. Successful interview and satisfactory reference. Duration and Delivery One year, full time.

Progression

Semi-professional football contract; Higher Education courses, such as HNC in Sport & Exercise Science, Sports Coaching or Health and Fitness.

  • Matt Sedgwick - Sport and Exercise Science +

    Matt studied BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science at Kingston College and was also a member of the Men’s Football Academy. Matt previously attended The Matthew Arnold School and is now in his first year at University of Wolverhampton studying BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy.   What was college life like? College life wasn’t quite what I expected: it was a pleasant surprise at how comfortable I was during my time at Kingston, I felt a great transition from secondary school to further education.   Favourite part of your course?  The ability to play football while studying, with a great set of lectures and lessons especially during my last year.   Did you take up any opportunities during your time at college which benefited you? I achieved a Level 1 Coaching Certificate so I could externally volunteer to coach football which is something I really enjoy.   Any fond memories of former tutors /other students?
