BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science (Year 2 of 2)

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science is aimed at learners who want academic experience and who are aspiring to apply to university. This course is more theory based compared to the BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport and is ideal for the student who excels in sciences. Students have the opportuntity to secure 168 UCAS points. Most students progress to university to study a range of subjects e.g. recent graduates have secured places in Physical Education, Sports & Exercise Science, Sports Therapy or Physiotherapy, at Russell Group universities (Bath, Exeter, Durham, Nottingham, Southampton, Bristol, Cardiff & Kings). Course Content

The Extended Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science is a two year programme that is equivalent to three A Levels. The course deals with the scientific themes and concepts of sport and exercise science and aims to provide studies in sport which are directly related to the changing needs of employers in specific areas of the sport science industry.

Year 1: Anatomy for Sport & Exercise, Sport & Exercise Physiology, Sport & Exercise Psychology, Research Methods, Fitness Testing, Exercise Health & Lifestyle, Sports Nutrition, Practical Team Sport and Exercise for specific groups

Year 2: Sports Biomechanics, Sport & Exercise Massage, Current Issues in Sport, Research Project, Sports Coaching, Applied Sport Psychology, Applied Sport Physiology, Fitness Testing & Programming and Sport Injuries

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above which must include English Language, Mathematics and ideally Science. Successful interview and satisfactory reference..

Duration and Delivery

Two years, full-time.

Progression

Higher Education courses, such as Sports Management, Physical Education, Sports Science, Sports Therapy or Physiotherapy.

    Matt studied BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science at Kingston College and was also a member of the Men’s Football Academy. Matt previously attended The Matthew Arnold School and is now in his first year at University of Wolverhampton studying BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy.   What was college life like? College life wasn’t quite what I expected: it was a pleasant surprise at how comfortable I was during my time at Kingston, I felt a great transition from secondary school to further education.   Favourite part of your course?  The ability to play football while studying, with a great set of lectures and lessons especially during my last year.   Did you take up any opportunities during your time at college which benefited you? I achieved a Level 1 Coaching Certificate so I could externally volunteer to coach football which is something I really enjoy.   Any fond memories of former tutors /other students? Going on the paintball trip with the football team with former tutors, Martyn and Alex, as well as Charlie (our coach) was a lot of fun.
