HNC/HND in Sport (Health, Fitness and Exercise Pathway)

The Sport’s industry is a dynamic and fast growing industry within the UK with a vast amount of employment opportunities available. An Edexcel HNC/HND in Sport (Health, Fitness and Exercise pathway) is a logical step towards a managerial position within the Fitness industry. This is a more vocational option compared to the HNC/HND in Sport and Exercise Science course that we offer, aimed at those that have an interest in the health and fitness sector, rather than pure academic sport science.

Entry Requirements

Typical offer Subject/level: GCSE Maths and English Language at grade C (4+) or above, plus L3 Personal Trainer qualification or BTEC Level 3 in Sport or Sport and Exercise Science, grade MP or above or two A levels in the Sciences at grade C or above. Applicants should have 32 UCAS points from A level, BTEC Level 3 or equivalent qualifications.

Course Content

Students will study mandatory units which may include:-

  • Anatomy and physiology for sport and exercise
  •  Physical activity, lifestyle and wellbeing
  •  Training and fitness for sport and exercise
  •  Health Promotion
  •  Research Project
  •  Nutrition for sport and exercise

 

And optional units which may include:-

  •  Work-based placement
  • Sport and exercise psychology
  • Field-based fitness testing
  • Personal and professional development
  • Technology in sport and exercise science
  • Functional exercise physiology
  • Injury prevention and treatments in sport and exercise

 

The HNC/D award will be made on the accumulation of credits from the modules studied over 1 or 2 years study.

Duration and Delivery

The HNC is a full time, one year course with the option to ‘top up’ and complete a second year (HND) (apply direct through UCAS). Lectures will take place on two days during the week (exact days and times of delivery to be confirmed). 

Progression

Students also have the opportunity to progress onto a BSc with one of our partner universities. (Further information at interview). Alternatively, students may wish to enter employment within the industry.

Additional Information

Tuition fees for 2018-2019 is £4950.  The course will provide students with the opportunity to gain entry to university or paid employment within the industry.

Enrolments take place throughout the year and learners can join the course at any stage.
