Travel and Tourism covers a wide range of employment opportunities in one of the fastest growing industry in the UK. It includes jobs in airlines and hotels, with tour operators and travel agents or involving tourist attractions, conferences and events, hospitality and entertainment. Gaining a qualification in Travel and Tourism at this level can lead to Higher Education which should lead to higher paid jobs.
Course ContentThe course provides you with an excellent grounding in the skills and knowledge needed for a career in Travel & Tourism. You will study a range of different units. This may include:
- Investigating Travel and Tourism
- The UK as a destination
- Customer service in Travel and Tourism
- Longhaul travel destinations
- Conferences and events
- Roles and responsibilities of holiday representatives
- The appeal and importance of UK visitor attractions
- The cruise industry
You will also undertake a minimum one week work placement. This course is equivalent to two A Levels and students will be awarded a qualification grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction.
Students may also study a range of additional qualifications (subject to meeting certain criteria). This could include:
- NCFE Level 2 Certificate for Airline Cabin Crew
Entry RequirementsFour GCSEs at grade C/4 or above (including English Language or maths) or Level 2 at Merit or Distinction grade plus Functional Skills Level 2 English and Maths.
International Entry RequirementsHigh School Leaving Certificate at grade C or above or comparable qualification. IELTS 5.0 or equivalent English Language Certificate. Satisfactory reference.
Duration and Delivery
ProgressionMost students will progress onto the BTEC Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma (year 2) following completion of this course. You may then choose to go straight into employment or progress onto the HNC/HND Travel & Tourism Management course or study at BA level. The College have excellent links with major universities and organises taster days and talks at St Mary's University and the University of West London.
Additional InformationPlease note that our programme includes day and residential trips. An overseas residential trip will be arranged at a cost of approximately £400 depending on destination (financial assistance can usually be provided for those students eligible for bursary). Previous destinations include Barcelona, Athens and Budapest, where students have had an amazing experience visiting a wide range of tourist attractions, having guided tours and talks from industry experts. We also have employability events where students have the opportunity to attend sessions run by tourism industry experts to advise on career paths within the industry.
