Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND International Travel and Tourism Management (Conversion HNC to HND)

The Travel and Tourism industry is one of the fastest growing industries within the UK and has a vast amount of employment opportunities available. An Edexcel HND in Tourism Management is a logical step towards a managerial position within the industry or to studying a BA Hons degree.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) course information

September 2020 delivery

It is anticipated that delivery for this course in September will be through a blended approach consisting of some face to face delivery and some online delivery. We will continue to be guided by the Department of Education and Pearson guidelines. Our class sizes are typically small which is beneficial in adhering to social distancing measures and keeping our students and staff safe. We aim to move to full face-to-face delivery as soon as Government guidelines allow us to do so safely.

Course Content

Successful completion of the HND requires an accumulation of 240 credits, with 120 credits at each of the two levels. Students will study a range of units that may include:-

Level 4 (Year 1) modules –

Mandatory core units:

  • The Travel and Tourism Sector (15 credits)
  • Finance and Funding in the Travel and Tourism Sector (15 credits)

Optional units:

  • Marketing in Travel and Tourism (15 credits)
  • Contemporary Issues in Travel and Tourism (15 credits)
  • Resort Management (15 credits)
  • Heritage and Cultural Tourism (15 credits)
  • Visitor Attraction Management (15 credits)

Level 5 (Year 2) modules

Mandatory core units:

  • The Developing Manager (15 credits)
  • Research Project (20 credits)
  • Marketing in Travel and Tourism (15 credits)
  • Sustainable Tourism Development (15 credits)
  • Legislation and Ethics in the Travel and Tourism Sector (15 credits)
  • Human Resource Management for Service Industries (15 credits)

Entry Requirements

HNC in Travel and Tourism Management.

Course Duration

The HND is full time and is studied during the day and evening. (Exact days and times of delivery to be confirmed).

Progression

Progression from the HND course could include a BA Hons in Tourism Management at one of our partner universities. In order to progress to university, all candidates will need to hold GCSEs in both English and Maths at grade A*-C. Alternatively, students may wish to enter employment within the industry.
