Excel Beginners

This course provides a supportive environment for people who have no or very little experience of Microsoft Excel. The course is also suitable for people who have some experience of Excel but lack confidence. This course will teach you the fundamentals.

Your tutor will provide a mini-booklet with explanations and exercises for you to complete in class and take away. There will be a blend of computer-based exercises, theory, discussions, group and pair work. You are invited to ask questions at any time.

  • Entry Requirements


    You will need experience of using a computer, for example creating and saving files. You will also need a willingness to have a go at some simple maths.

  • Course Content


    • By the end of the course you'll be able to:
    • Explain the key features of Excel
    • Navigate your way around Excel
    • Use key terms e.g. ribbon, row, column, cell
    • Use correct data formats e.g. number, text, date, currency
    • Make clear and readable spreadsheets
    • Use formulae to add, subtract, multiply and divide
    • Solve practical problems with spreadsheets
    • Make simple charts
    • Simple Conditional Formatting
