As part of Employability Week at Kingston College, Border Force UK based at Gatwick airport visited out Uniformed Protective Services students. The Border Force UK Team included former Kingston College student, Ben Simmons, and his colleague, Henry Dean. Ben Simmons was a previous Automotive Engineering student at Kingston College seventeen years ago.

Ben and Dean discussed the roles and responsibilities of Border Force UK.

Students were encouraged to apply for the Border Force UK Apprenticeship that is on offer. The benefits of this Apprenticeship were highlighted to students. The exciting career opportunities available were also discussed, such as travelling to different countries to work in the Visa department at British Embassies across the world.

The skills and knowledge that are gained by working with Border Force were highlighted as being transferrable skills that can be used to explore further career paths within the Uniformed Public / Protective Services.

The students asked lots of questions, as the session related to the students' Public Service course units and covered course related topics such as law enforcement relating to Immigration and Customs controls.

This was an excellent session and alot of the students were interested in applying for the Border Force UK Apprenticeship in the future.

At the end of the session, I took Ben down to the Automotive Engineering department to meet his former teachers including Des Rodney and Bryan Ruby.
