On 8 February 2024, BTEC Policing students, organised by the Kingston College Employability team, met with the Mayor of Kingston upon Thames - Councillor Diane White, Councillor Andrew Wooldridge and three senior ranking Police Officers from Kingston Police Station, including the Borough Commander.

The Year 1 and Year 2 Policing students presented their experiences and findings from a Safer Neighbourhood Social Action Campaign that originally started in June 2023. They gave an outline of the social action campaign project which started as a street walk with police officers to identify places where they felt were unsafe – the students fed back that these were Cloisters Mall, Cromwell Bus Station and Castle Street. As a result of this the Police and local Council have made noticeable changes and investment to act on the findings and with great success.

The Policing learners delivered two presentations regarding the social action campaign and how to tackle current problems such as knife crime and anti-social behaviour. Their efforts were very well received by those present and all parties have requested a keen interest on moving this partnership forward with annual updates and events planned.

The students also collected money for the Met and City Police Orphan Fund.
