Fourteen of our second year Travel & Tourism Diploma students have been offered an overseas placement through the Turing scheme (formerly the Erasmus scheme) in Istanbul, Turkey and in Sicily. On 1st April, the students will be enjoying one month’s work experience in 4* and 5* hotels in various departments such as:

  • Front of House
  • Management
  • HR
  • Sales and Marketing

Each student has attended both a preparation and pre-departure meeting. During the preparation meeting, they gathered information relating to their travel and accommodation needs as well as arranging any additional funding required for passports, visas, clothing or other applicable items. Documents relating to their course, for example learning agreements, have also been submitted. They will also be involved in the booking of flights and accommodation.

Lecturer, Elizabeth Smith, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for these students who will benefit from this unique experience in the early stage of their careers before going into employment or to university.”
